What could be more awesome than realizing that you are in control of your life and have empowered yourself to live it to the fullest! To live well, you must learn to embrace the power of daily positive thinking. Learning to master these few important principles can turn your life around in a major way!
Why Positive Thinking Is Important
Positive thinking can provide the basis for happiness, inner peace, and personal accomplishment. Positive thinking, positive energy, and self-confidence all work together to help you live your best life. Learning to think positively is one of the most important skills you can master because it can help make bad things better and good things wonderful.
Chances are you view yourself as an optimist, realist, or pessimist. Daily positive thinking gives you a way to overcome these categories and learn to approach each day on its own merits. Once you learn how to make the key practices in this article part of your daily living activities, you will never look back.
The key to doing anything that you have admired in others or that will make your own dreams come true always begins with positive thinking. The rest of the journey to success is self-confidence, visualization, and the effort required to make it happen.
Self Confidence – Your Secret Weapon
Positive thinking always needs a secret weapon. This is the self-confidence required to take you to the next step in the process, which is visualization. How is your self-confidence? We are not born with it fully developed. It is something we must develop and nurture as we go through life.
Having confidence in yourself can come from many things, such as your individual personality, upbringing, and the things you have been taught and given in life that make it easier to succeed. The magic ingredient that “supercharges” self-confidence is your willingness to believe that you can do anything you set your mind to!
The advantages of life can make it easier to develop self-confidence. Still, I have seen people from a wealthy family with a fancy education fail simply because they continually doubt their ability to make their dreams and wishes a reality and never apply themselves to the task of making it happen.
People who were brought up as children to believe they will never be anything but mediocre or inferior can have the most difficult time developing their self-confidence. This can be harder to overcome than being born with a serious physical handicap or developmental disability! To deal with these things effectively, inferiority complexes need to be recognized as counterproductive beliefs so they can be appropriately rectified.
Sometimes overcoming obstacles to developing self-confidence requires a bit of outside assistance. If you are not making any progress on your own, don’t be afraid to enlist the aid of a self-help book or a friend. Various health care professionals can provide you with the counseling you need to get you moving in the right direction.
Self-confidence is something that you can learn to develop at any age, even as an adult or in your later years. It is a never-ending process that you are always perfecting as you go. Make self-confidence your secret weapon, and there is virtually no limit to what you can do!
Enabling Visualization With Self Confidence
Visualization and self-confidence go hand in hand. All good visualization techniques begin with a positive affirmation that is linked to your confidence to succeed. Visualization allows you to solidify your desire to make something happen in your life.
When you are passionate about something that seems like a dream or impossible to achieve, then you need to create an initial visualization or “visualization overview.”
This visualization overview happens before you even begin to work on any of the elements required to make your particular desire or dream a reality. It allows you to see yourself having successfully mastered each element of what you desire and happily performing it effortlessly.
For example, if you desire to be a world-class guitar player and you’ve never played a single note on the instrument, then visualize yourself being able to play anything that your heart desires with complete confidence, no matter how difficult.
Now you are ready to begin acting on your plan by breaking your visualization overview into a separate visualization for each of the task’s steps. As you work through each step, visualize yourself being confident that you can do whatever it takes to succeed and see yourself completing that step and how happy you are because it is done.
Each visualization step should include a plan of action and the potential pitfalls you anticipate encountering along the way (just the major ones). Visualize yourself acting on this step and successfully overcoming obstacles until you are excited to have mastered it completely!
In our example, you visualize yourself having mastered the guitar basics, like learning how to tune it and the names of the strings and all the notes on the neck. The next visualization step might be learning how to play one of your favorite songs, and so forth.
Learning to visualize yourself being unquestionably successful at anything that is realistically possible in life before you ever try will open up a whole new world of possibilities and take you to levels of accomplishment that you never thought possible!
Finding Your Sources Of Positive Energy
Positive energy is the driving force for positive thoughts. It comes from all the things you believe are good in life and how they can help you achieve the things you want. You most likely get your positive energy from a variety of sources. All you have to do is find them.
These energy sources can come from thoughts of an experience or a wonderful time in your life. Alternately, there is positive energy around you that comes from relationships with people, pets, music, art, food, flowers, etc.
Childhood memories are often an excellent source of positive energy. If you remember how a particular childhood experience made you feel, then this is a source of positive energy that can be repurposed to create new positive thinking.
Adult memories are usually easier to derive positive energy because they are more synchronized to you are currently doing in life.
Locations that have positive memories can be excellent sources of positive energy. Examples include your childhood home, a place you’ve lived in a foreign land, or a special vacationing spot. Some of the best memories of my life are from the years I lived in Florence and Rome! I use frequently use these memories as a source of positive energy.
One of the most powerful forms of positive energy comes from helping others and bringing happiness into their lives, making you feel good about yourself.
Different types of positive energy are unexplainably unique, just like different colors. What makes one color your favorite? You can’t explain it, but you know that it is, and you like how it makes you feel!
The more sources of positive energy you can tap into the easier it will be to develop and call on your ability to think positively.
Always Remember To Leave A Space For You!
Day-to-day life done right is a big commitment that requires a lot of organization and effort. One of the best things you can do to maintain your positive energy and enhance your ability to think positively is to make time each day to rest and do the things you enjoy.
Taking just 15 minutes a day can make a big difference in how you feel and help you get more out of life. The busier you are the more important it is to add “you time” into your schedule. Being creative and flexible in your approach will help make your day flow smoothly.
Exercise, mindful meditation, yoga, and Tai Chi are some excellent ways to use your time. Hobbies are another great alternative. You may find it more gratifying to have time to yourself, with someone special, or in a group. The most important thing is to make it a regular and satisfying part of each day.
During this time you might find it helpful to reflect on the things in your life that you are grateful for having accomplished. Some people find it useful to keep a gratitude diary that they can review at a later date.
Here is a video from National Geographic on “The Power Of Positivity.” It demonstrates the powerful effect a positive approach can have on performance.
The number one book I recommend to learn more about how to think positive and harness your positive energy is The Power of Positive Thinking by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale. This book is an international bestseller that has sold over 5 million copies and changed the lives of people all over the world!
Benefits of Positive Thinking
Daily positive thinking can enrich your life in a variety of ways. No matter how good (or bad) your life is, self-confidence and positive energy will always make it better. Begin each morning with a positive thought and use that positive energy to make your day better. Here are some of the benefits of this type of daily practice.
Eliminating Negative Thoughts
We all have negative thoughts at one time or another. Many of our negative thoughts are related to our fear of failure, while others may come from unhappy or negative past experiences in life. The best way to eliminate a negative thought is to find something positive that you can associate with. Negative thoughts are disruptive to your biorhythm, mental well-being, and productivity.
Becoming Happy And Content
Happiness and contentment come from your ability to move forward in life and be pleased with who you are or who you are becoming. This is achieved by eliminating negative thoughts, forging satisfying relationships, being independent and financially secure, and fulfilling your goals in life.
It’s important to define what you really want out of life and don’t constantly shoot for more. People that fail to do this may be happy but are seldom content.
Enjoying Better Health
There is a definite relationship between the way you think and how you feel. People who think positively feel better and vice versa. Negative thoughts and depression can adversely affect your immune system and make you ill or worsen a chronic medical condition. Make it a habit to exercise every day. Try to get 8 to 9 hours of uninterrupted sleep a night. Have an annual well visit with your health care provider and make an appointment for a sick visit if you do not feel well. Building Lasting Relationships
Positive relationships help you sustain your positive thoughts throughout the day. These interactions can be like “charging stations” that can re-energize you. Building positive relationships is an ongoing process that pays dividends in the long run.
A great place to start is with your family and relatives if you haven’t already got that covered. I was lucky enough to be brought up in an awesome Italian family environment, which was a constant source of positive energy and fun!
Friendships that you make at work and in your social life can last forever. Always remember that both the give and take of a relationship are sources of positive energy that naturally lead to positive thinking. The gratification of helping others is a special type of positive energy that really makes you feel good about yourself.
Improving Job Satisfaction
Positive thinking is essential to increasing your overall job satisfaction. No matter how much you like or dislike your job, a positive approach will enhance your productivity and sense of fulfillment. One of the best strategies to improve your happiness at work is to avoid disgruntled coworkers and people with a generally negative attitude.
If you are an employee, your positive energy will come through everything you do and improve your likelihood of job advancement. If you own your business, your positive energy will go a long way toward projecting your image as a leader and motivating your staff.
Achieving Financial Independence
Motivation and high performance are driven by positive thinking and visualization. These qualities are commonly found in people that define and follow through with the long term goals necessary to achieve financial independence in life.
To be successful in business, you need the confidence to get the education or training required to make you a valuable asset and give you an advantage over your competition.
Retiring well is not just about achieving financial independence. Positive thinking and energy are probably more important for a happy and healthy retirement than in any other stage of life. Living a happy and contented life as a senior citizen comes with its own unique set of mental and physical challenges.
Your ability to remain positive as you age is one of the biggest factors determining your overall quality of life, all things remaining equal. Pursuing the things you enjoy, like hobbies and new interests, will help you stay engaged and cope with the obstacles as they arise.
During this time, one of your main sources of positive energy is from family and friends’ support and assistance. Many of your positive thoughts will be associated with the recollection of wonderful memories of your younger days.
Daily positive thinking is an essential ingredient of living a happy, content, and productive life at any age. Learning to apply the best positive thinking required to create self-confidence can enable effective visualization that can help you succeed and excel at anything realistically possible.
The power of positive thinking has many non-tangible benefits, and its application is only limited by your imagination. Learning just a few basic techniques can help you turn your life around in a major way.
